Old Greenwich School Secret Garden

Tucked away on the south side of the school, we created a garden. Along the side of the building there are several raised beds that burst with brilliant yellow daffodils every spring. We built these beds so kindergarten students could plant these bulbs with us as part of our Juniors program. Each year the bulbs multiply so there are now hundreds of bulbs. We have also planted perennials to bloom from late spring until fall. Along the fence, we have planted some low maintenance shrubs and perennials in an undulating curve that can thrive in the dry, shady conditions. These plants compliment the mature trees and make a great backdrop to the large containers of flowers that we help the kindergarteners plant each year. You may have already found the "secret" part of the garden, which is a garden bench surrounded by more of the containers, hidden in the shrubs in the shade.
