Adiantum pedatum
Size / Sun / Conditions
18–24" tall and wide. Part shade to shade. Prefers moist, humus-rich woodland soil.
One of the most graceful native ferns, maidenhair fern forms soft, horizontal sprays of delicate green leaflets arranged in a distinctive fan. It brings a refined, almost architectural lightness to shaded plantings and pairs beautifully with hostas, wildflowers, and other woodland companions.
It thrives in cool, shaded settings with consistently moist, humus-rich soil. Despite its delicate appearance, it is hardy and long-lived when sited well, returning reliably each year and quietly elevating the planting around it.
