Member Requirements

All members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings and club events. Meetings are usually held on the second Friday of each month. No regular meetings are scheduled in January, February, July, and August. A summer social gathering is held in July.

Members are encouraged to enter at least one design each year and to enter horticultural and photography exhibits as often as possible.

Members may be asked to assist with and contribute to the monthly meeting hospitality.

All members serve on the Civic Committee and on at least one other committee. Sign-up sheets will be available in June or members may contact the chairs of committees.

The annual membership fee is payable June 1 and must be paid no later than June 30. New members shall pay an initiation fee of $25 in addtion to the annual membership fee. A portion of the membership fee covers membership in the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
Recruiting New Members

Should be enthusiastic and have at least one area of particular interest or expertise in horticulture, design, conservation or civic betterment.
Should not be reluctant or need to be persuaded to join the Club.
Should express an interest in the Club’s purpose which is “to stimulate an interest in the cultivation of plants, flowers and the making of gardens, to learn about flower design and to promote community and civic betterment.”
Should be aware that a new member is expected to join and participate on a Club committee and attend Club events.

Will have met with the candidate.
Will provide a copy of the Membership Requirements and review them with the candidate.
Will give a letter of sponsorship and a completed application to the Membership Chair.
Will greet the candidate at meetings and events and make introductions to the Membership Chair and to as many Board Members as possible.
Will stay in close contact with the new member for a least a year, making sure the new member feels welcome and is participating in the Club’s activities.
Committee Descriptions

reaches out to the community through gardening activities including tending to the planters and beds in the village, at Greenwich Point, and at various other locations in Old Greenwich. All club members participate on the Civic Committee.

cares for the garden located at Greenwich Point.

provides the club with information on conservation and environmental concerns, drawing attention to important developments.

plans themes and flower designs for meetings and flower shows, and organizes workshops on design.

publishes, edits, and updates the Club directory.

organizes the budget and expenditures.

supports community programs that help the disabled and elderly by organizing crafts and garden activities.

helps members learn about plants, plans field trips, and organizes workshops.

hosts the monthly meetings and yearly events.

creates educational programs for young people in the Old Greenwich community.

maintains the membership list, presents completed new applications to the Executive Board, provides nametags for members, and takes attendance at events.

plans for our primary fund raiser held the Saturday before Mother’s Day. All club members participate in this event.

secures speakers for our monthly meetings and arranges field trips.

promotes club activities in the community through radio, our website, and social and print media.
