Butterfly Garden
Among the many treasures at Tod's Point, the beautiful Butterfly Garden is particularly special. You can enjoy the lovely flowers and butterflies while appreciating the stunning view of Eagle Pond. The steps and terraces date back from the original mansion. The Garden Club of Old Greenwich has been planting and tending this special treat for nature lovers and pollinators since 2002.
Better known as golden rod. It is a native plant and a favorite of butterflies. Contrary to popular belief: it doesn't cause hay fever!
The sign reads:
This site provides milkweeds, nectar sources, and shelter needed to sustain monarch butterflies as they migrate through North America.
Certified by Monarch Watch as an official Monarch Waystation.
Create, conserve, and protect monarch habitats.

THANK YOU to the 25 GCOG volunteers helped Summer of 2020
Our members weed, water, and deadhead at 7 AM and after 7 PM
It’s cooler then too!
Our members carry hundreds of pounds of water every week.
Did you know that water weighs eight pounds a gallon?
Window boxes need the most water. They have less soil, so it holds less moisture and it dries out more quickly.
Faucets and hoses are available at some local merchants.
GCOG members have contributed plants from their own gardens for the sidewalk beds and planters.
We use a variety of small shrubs, perennials, and annuals.
In May, GCOG spent $1,400 on plants to fill the 65 planters and 17 sidewalk beds.
We think it’s worth it!
We wanted the walk home from the train station to be a pleasant one, so we turned the island into a garden.
Casa Blanca lilies smell as lovely as they look.
Hardy hibiscus.

Old Greenwich School Secret Garden
To let kindergarten kids experience the joy of planting bulbs, we created a small garden on the south side of the elementary school. Now, several raised beds along the building’s wall burst every spring with brilliant yellow daffodils. Each year the bulbs multiply so there are now thousands. We also planted perennials to bloom from late spring until fall. Along the fence, we planted an undulating curve of low-maintenance shrubs and perennials that can thrive in the dry, shady conditions. These plants complement the mature trees and make a great backdrop to the large containers of flowers that we help the kindergartners plant each year. You may have already found the "secret" part of the garden, which is a garden bench surrounded by more of the containers, hidden among the shrubs in the shade.
Post Office Garden
Many little pockets in Old Greenwich benefit from our club’s attention. For several years, we has been gardening in front of the Post Office. This spot is very challenging because plants growing among mature tree roots and near hot pavement need lots of water. We hope the garden brightens your day and inspires reflections on how life and beauty can be encouraged everywhere.
