Last year, we tried something new: sprouting gladiolus bulbs in "bathroom tissue tubes" - if you saw them, you know what we mean. They were a huge success! Gladioli are an underused plant that works well in garden beds and containers. They have great grassy foliage and striking flowers. Aside from being beautiful in the garden, they make great cut flowers.
Last year, we chose a pink and red glad called 'Wine and Roses.' This year we have a clear yellow bloom called 'Nova Lux.' We will sell sprouted glads as well as bulbs (technically, they are corms) so you can plant your own and extend the bloom season.
They are a tall plant that can benefit from some staking or support of fences or other tall plants. I think one reason that they aren't more popular is because they aren't easy to ship to nurseries once they are taller, but ours are the perfect size to happily make the ride home with you.
